The Epic Journey Begins: From Bogota to Medellin by Bus

Stepping onto the bus platform in Bogota, in the early morning, anticipation filled the air as we prepared to embark on our first bus journey of the year, from the Bogota to the vibrant metropolis of Medellin.

We had heard tales of breathtaking landscapes, encounters with friendly locals, and the thrill of traversing Colombia's diverse terrain. With our backpacks on, Humphrey safely carried by hand, and a sense of adventure in our hearts, we eagerly board the bus.. Having never truly taken a bus before, I was a little nervous as to what to expect. We used BusBud.com to purchase our tickets and it was extremely helpful with all of the information regarding the buses used by specific companies, as well as reviews to help us choose the right bus.

Chapter 1: Departure and the Road Ahead:

As the bus engine roars to life, we settle into our large comfortable seats (something I wasn’t expecting), gazing out the window at the urban landscape of Bogota fading into the distance. The anticipation builds, and we can't help but wonder what we will see along the winding road to Medellin. The driver announced our departure, and we were off! leaving the city behind and venturing into the countryside. We stuck in our headphones in and prepared for the twelve hours of bus time.

Chapter 2: Embracing the Colombian Countryside

We left the urban sprawl behind, and the scenery transforms before our eyes. Rolling green hills, dotted with vibrant flora and fauna, stretch out as far as the eye can see. The Colombian countryside unfolds like a living postcard, captivating us with its natural beauty and picturesque charm. The bus winds its way through mountain passes and lush valleys, offering glimpses of cascading waterfalls and sleepy villages along the route. It's a visual feast that reminds us of the diversity and richness of Colombia's landscapes. Y’all I dont think we are in Texas anymore...

Chapter 3: Unexpected Stops and Hidden Gems

One of the joys of bus travel is the serendipity of unexpected stops and hidden gems along the way. Our journey from Bogota to Medellin is no exception. The bus driver, attuned to the needs and desires of the passengers, lets on vendors as we cruise through small towns, allowing them time to offer us a taste of local delicacies and warm cafe. While we did not partake, this time, we were surrounded by other passengers who were savoring delicious empanadas and indulging in a hot cup of cafe to start our early morning. Bus food is most definitely the way to go if you’re hungry on a long haul bus ride.

Chapter 4: Scenic Delights Along the Route

As the bus snaked its way through the mountains, we are treated to breathtaking vistas that leave us in awe. Majestic peaks pierce the sky, and emerald-green valleys unfold beneath us. Clouds drift lazily across the horizon, casting shadows that create a dramatic dance of light and shade. The ever-changing landscapes paint a vivid picture of Colombia's natural wonders, and we can't help but feel a deep appreciation for the country's remarkable beauty. Something we never would have seen had we flown overhead. I spent most of the ride either sleeping or staring out the window at the gorgeous views.

Chapter 5: Pit Stops and Refreshment Breaks

The long bus journey meant we had one major pit stop along the route, at a bustling cafe and restaurant. With the grill in the middle of the complex, the smells were intoxicating and peaked our apetites. Here we had our first hambergusas of the trip, which were mostly ham upon ham upon ham, but so good and just what we needed after the long drive of the morning.

Tip: make sure you keep a roll of toilet paper on you, when you embark on a bus ride in Colombia. Both the rest stop and the bathroom on board of the bus did not provide toilet paper unless paid for.

Chapter 6: Arrival in Medellin: A City Awaits

After a long day, of reading, naps, and staring out the window we were almost there! Medellin, known as the "City of Eternal Spring," beckons us with its promises of urban charm and hidden treasures. The final leg of our journey is punctuated by stunning city views, as we descend into the valley and catch glimpses of Medellin's iconic skyline.
